18th April - Oceana Nightclub in Leeds

On the 18th April Martin Colton will be making his next outting for Chokdee Muay Thai. Having learnt a lot since the last fight in January Martin has grown as a fighter and made some radical changes to his diet, training routine and mental approach. This means that he has dropped down to 70kgs and is looking very strong for the weight. Martin is facing a fighter from Philip Tieu's Gym in London. Avid supporters may remember Philip Tieu from his bout with Dave Philips on Master Skens show a couple of years ago. Since then Philip has set up his own gym, and is now putting out fighters. This looks to be a closely contested bout on paper, with both guys having 1 fight each.

Unfortunately, Martin got caught cold by a very strong southpaw opponent. Liam from Tieu's Gymbox has spent that past 3 months training in Thailand, and was very effective with his knees, dropping Martin twwice, when the referee stopped the fight after 2mins of round 1.

This is going to be a dual event for Chokdee, as one of the main events is Rich Cadden, who is fighting out of the Bad Company Gym against the up-and-coming Paul Kelly, from Wossobama Gym in Scotland. With both guys having a come-forward aggressive style, this is guaranteed to be a tear-up! This is a non-title bout matched at 65kgs. The other main event is Luke Turner, who is facing Rob Doyle from Bridestone Thai, from Ireland. Rich beat Rob back in 2008 for the IKF European title so this will be a good test for Luke, who is forging his name as one of the new 'names' coming through the ranks at Bad Company.

Rich took an early lead behind a strong push kick and low kick defence, finishing the round well with a strong body kick, which dropped Paul Kelly for an 8-count. In round 2, Rich controlled the pace of the fight with ring-craft and increased the pressure in round 3. At the end of the third round Rich changed tactics and utilised his boxing to good effect, dropping Paul for a second time, and Paul didnt make the count.

1-1 for Chokdee!

Al Chambers victorious in Harrogate

Al Chambers had his first fight for Chokdee, against Mark Nicholson from East Riding Thai on 18th October. Both guys weighed in at 80kgs. Although Mark started quick, Al kept his chin down and kept his cool. Listening well to his corner Al maintained a strong defence and progressive pressure forwards. Al dropped Mark for an 8-count in round three, then twice again in round 4. At which point the referee stopped the contest as Mark was no longer defending himself, taking too much punishment.
Congrats to Al on his first win.

Wes Nunns fights at MMA Supremacy

Last night Wes "The Warrior" Nunns fought at MMA Supremacy at Abbey Leisure Centre in Selby. He fought Mike Tolson from Assylum MMA, who came to the ring with a 100% KO record. Wes knew of Mikes great striking ability, but working with Rich at the muay thai gym, we devised a plan to upset the apple cart. Wes started the fight with some heavy snapping low kicks which unsettled Mikes base and the capitalised quickly, so he was unable to gain a foot hold on the fight. Wes then landed some clean boxing knocking Mike to the ground. Althwes mmaough Wes is very happy with his ground game, he showed maturity beyond his 4f record and kept the fight to where he was having most success (in the stand-up fighting). Then after a devasting left hook and right upper cut, Wes stepped up the pressure to finish the fight with knees to the head as Mike pulled back and refused to throw anything offesive. The referee waved it over after 2min 45 of round 1. A great performance from Wes, which now takes his record to 4f 3w 1l.

Due to the fact that Wes has found the next level to his training he was struggling to keep weight on for this fight. In future matches he has said he wants to drop his fight weight to 77kgs (instead of the 83kgs that this was matched at). Wes weighed in at 79kgs and his opponent was 82kgs.
Well done Wes.
